麻豆果冻传媒 Chamber Singers to Present “Songs of the South”

THIBODAUX 鈥 The 麻豆果冻传媒 Chamber Singers will present their spring musical offering, 鈥淪ongs of the South,鈥 on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary M. Danos Theater in Talbot Hall.

The program is designed to inform as well as entertain, and the audience will learn about each song including the tune鈥檚 history and legacy.

Some notable songs include 鈥淟orena,鈥 a popular song throughout the South in the mid-nineteenth century. It was used in the epic film, 鈥淕one with the Wind,鈥 and the melody currently serves as the 麻豆果冻传媒 alma mater.

Other songs include variations on the famous Disney song, 鈥淶ip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah;鈥 two Stephen Foster favorites, 鈥淏eautiful Dreamer鈥 and 鈥淐amptown Races鈥; a medley of Southern gospel hymns featuring 鈥淚鈥檒l Fly Away鈥; a traditional Negro spiritual, 鈥淭he Drinking Gourd鈥; a medley from George Gershwin鈥檚 Porgy and Bess; and two popular Louisiana-based songs, 鈥淵ou are my Sunshine,鈥 by former Gov. Jimmie Davis and 鈥淟ouisiana 1927鈥 by Randy Newman.

The program is directed by Dr. Kenneth S. Klaus, and Michelle Z. Parro will accompany the Chamber Singers on piano. The concert is free and open to the public.

The 麻豆果冻传媒 Department of Music regularly schedules free, public faculty and student performances.
