{"id":8094,"date":"2020-02-20T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T16:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=8094"},"modified":"2020-02-20T19:15:35","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T19:15:35","slug":"nicholls-biology-student-to-present-research-on-capitol-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2020\/02\/20\/nicholls-biology-student-to-present-research-on-capitol-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"麻豆果冻传媒 Biology Student to Present Research on Capitol Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; A 麻豆果冻传媒 student has been selected to present their research at the Council on Undergraduate Research\u2019s annual 24th annual Posters on the Hill symposium in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ethan Naquin will present his research on the \u201cPresence of multi-drug resistant pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes in waterways and seafood populations of rural Southeast Louisiana, USA.\u201d The junior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/biology\/\">biology<\/a> pre-med major from Thibodaux will be in D.C. from April 20-21.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy future goal is to go to medical school and become a doctor. Honors like this allow me to use my research ability to make a lasting and profound impact on the medical field,\u201d Naquin said. \u201cThe issue of antibiotic resistance has been a growing concern in recent years, and it has also been a growing concern in the medical field as well. As a pre-med student, I felt like it was something that aligned perfectly with what I am studying.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each spring, the CUR hosts the annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill. The event shows Congress members and staff the importance of undergraduate research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guiding Naquin is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/biology\/faculty\/dr-ramaraj-boopathy\/\">Dr. Raj Boopathy<\/a>, Alcee Fortier Distinguished Service Professor of biological sciences. Dr. Boopathy also served as the adviser to Naquin\u2019s brother, Anthony, when his research was selected in 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnly one undergraduate student is selected per state. This means that Ethan is going to be representing Louisiana at this event,\u201d Dr. Boopathy said. \u201cThis selection is a huge honor, not only for Ethan but for 麻豆果冻传媒, as well.
