{"id":7649,"date":"2019-05-31T17:00:48","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T17:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/?p=7649"},"modified":"2019-10-06T01:10:36","modified_gmt":"2019-10-06T01:10:36","slug":"nicholls-biology-students-take-home-awards-from-fisheries-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/31\/nicholls-biology-students-take-home-awards-from-fisheries-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"麻豆果冻传媒 Biology Students Take Home Awards from Fisheries Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2019\/05\/team-nicholls-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-7650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nicholls.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/66\/2019\/05\/team-nicholls-1-540x359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"354\" \/><\/a>THIBODAUX, La. &#8212; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">麻豆果冻传媒 was once again well-represented at the Louisiana Chapter of American Fisheries Society annual meeting on May 23-24 in Thibodaux. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three 麻豆果冻传媒 marine and environmental biology graduate students received research awards, and for the third consecutive year, a 麻豆果冻传媒 student earned the top abstract award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That student is Rissa Inselman, a native of Morrison, Oklahoma, who was awarded for her presentation on community development, oyster density and population growth on bedded, crushed concrete as a function of cultch density. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are proud of our students for the work they put in on these presentations,\u201d said Dr. Quenton Fontenot, biology department head. \u201cThis is a great chance for them to show off their research, and their success is an indication that we are training our students to be well prepared to enter the coastal workforce.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gabrielle Sisson, of Alden, New York, placed second on her oral presentation for her look at the fishery-dependent stock of crawfish in the eastern Atchafalaya River Basin. Sisson received the top award last year for her abstract on the same research. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Raceland native Sarah Fontana presented her research on the growth and development of spotted gar spawned in captivity in and out of season in the poster competition and was awarded second place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The American Fisheries Society has more than 8,000 members including fisheries managers, biologists, professors, ecologists, aquaculturists, economists, engineers and geneticists from around the world.
